It's all in your mind, don't waste your time thinking about bad things.
Year Started Disc Golf
When/how did you discover disc golf and knew you absolutely loved it?
The first course I ever played was the IUP lodge in Pennsylvania and it was on an old ski slope. So the variety of shots and elevation was incredible. Being able to throw the disc as far as you could downhill is something special, but especially for a new player. I've been in love with the sport ever since.
What’s your favourite RPM Disc in your bag right now and why?
The Kotuku! The stamp is amazing and so is the base plastic. It flies perfect for the straight to slightly overstable shots. A go to midrange disc.
Do you have any practice routines? If so, what are they?
I practice my putting every single day. I have a circle painted in my back yard. I have several putting games I play to keep my mind occupied. I like to do field work after putting.
What are your goals for the current season?
I want to play as many tournaments as I can and work my way onto the pro tour. I am looking forward to competing for the putting world championship again this year!
Do you have a proudest disc golf moment?
Working with Eagles Wings Disc Golf in Zambia! We built the first disc golf course there and taught an entire community to play disc golf. I still keep in contact with a few friends from Zambia.
What is the most memorable disc golf battle you’ve experienced/witnessed?
I was there for the James Conrad shot! I actually competed against him at Matt Orum in the putting championships a few days earlier! I was in the crowd, standing on my stool. You can see me a foot taller than everyone around me. The crowd is dead silent as he lines up the shot facing directly into the sun. After a moment, he throws. The crowd slowly begins to get louder and louder, until Ching!!! An explosion of energy from more than a thousand people as James Conrad wins the crowd with an incredible shot. It was surreal. I get the chills thinking about standing next to my new friend Alex who I met that year at worlds as we watched James pull off a miracle. No one could believe what they just witnessed and the crowd was LOUD and chanting James over and over again as they went into the playoff. The rest is history.
What is your go to tip for disc golf beginners?
The easiest way to improve is to buy a basket and a bunch of putters. All you need to get good at putting, is to practice every day and get a rhythm.
If you could play any course in the world and bring along any 3 disc golf friends, where and who would it be?
the IUP College Lodge in Indiana Pennsylvania. This is where it all began for me. Throwing rounds in between classes at college. Throwing down the mountainside until I couldn't feel my arm anymore. I'd bring Sean Davis who introduced me to Disc Golf, at this course. Then I'd bring my friend Tim who introduced me to the turbo putt, which changed my game forever. Then my friend Cody, who played at IUP with me and Sean in the early days of my disc golf journey. We have played hundreds of rounds of disc golf together over the years.
I could not be more excited to play on Team RPM this year! Thank you for the opportunity! Sincerely,David Dunn
