Year Started Disc Golf
When/how did you discover disc golf and knew you absolutely loved it?
My first time throwing a disc was with my brothers at a local course. They gave me a destroyer and said rip it! I got 100 feet up the fairway to the cackles of my friends who just wanted to "initiate me" into the game. They then gave me a Roc3 and I played my first round ever. Later that week I was playing the local Pitch and Putt and hit my first Ace. It was the first moment I knew this was a thing for me now. Within a week I was at my locals tags group, RDGA, and I had the good fortune of finding some of the most compassionate, knowledge spreading individuals I could hope for from free clinics at winter putting leagues to consultant tag rounds I learned how to play the game the right way, and will forever remain grateful for the cultivation of the love for the game and community that is disc golf.
What’s your favourite RPM Disc in your bag right now and why?
The Kea has always been my workhorse. I know what I can do with it and it would be the one disc I would chose for a solo disc round. Flex it, forehand it, It remains true to its design.
Do you have any practice routines? If so, what are they?
Aside from the weekly tag round I'm fortunate to have in my area 3-5 times a week. I had a basket in my yard, now garage, since the third month of playing. I putt daily a minimum of 100 putts in a ladder from 15 feet to 25 feet to master circle one. Slowly as I started making more putts consistently I'm moving the marks back so I can play a beautiful bogey free round as often as possible.
What are your goals for the current season?
My goal for this season is to get my points requirement and make my way to Grand Rapids in 2024 for the AM Worlds. Have fun and be playing on the last day after the cutoff.
Do you have a proudest disc golf moment?
I always love throwing an ace in doubles and splitting the pot with my partner, but acing twice in a day is probably the top highlight.
What is the most memorable disc golf battle you’ve experienced/witnessed?
My first MA1 win was with some great players in Truckee, we had a 3 way tie for first going into the round and one player one stroke back. It was an amazing card to be on and we all played our hearts out to find the win. It came down to some smart golf and the very last hole to clutch the win. Ill always be appreciative of how positive our card was even though we all wanted it.
What is your go to tip for disc golf beginners?
Form a solid foundation of the basics with lower speed discs. For the first year after I found RPM discs I only threw a Kea and a Huia and had a Ruru for putts. it formed a titanium foundation to build in other discs and gave me the opportunity to feel weird trying new throws to iron out some of my errors. I still only play with six disc total and I find my consistency to be my greatest strength.
If you could play any course in the world and bring along any 3 disc golf friends, where and who would it be?
I would love to play Maple Hill. Watching it on coverage you can almost feel the care, intent and love put into the course. I have so many friend in my local disc golf community that id have to have a mini tournament to chose who would come, and all of them would be welcome.
