Year Started Disc Golf
When/how did you discover disc golf and knew you absolutely loved it?
I was given a RPM discs starter pack as a gift a few years ago. I didn’t know anything about the game, so they were pretty much unused until my work colleagues invited me to join them for a game at Jellie Park in Christchurch. I loved everything about it. Being outdoors, meeting others, throwing, having a laugh and being challenged. I was hooked!
What’s your favourite RPM Disc in your bag right now and why?
My favourite disc right now has to be my Cosmic Platinum Tui. I love throwing the Tui and get such easy distance. I love to throw it on a hyzer flip or in a tail wind…. it glides forever.
Do you have any practice routines? If so, what are they?
I always have two putters and take two putts at every hole. This is an easy way to get some more putting practice in but also allows me to make corrections on my putting.
What are your goals for the current season?
I want to continue to grow the women’s game in Christchurch. It would be awesome to have a strong showing of Christchurch women at tournaments and to build up a fun supportive environment for new players. As for personal game goals, I am really wanting to improve my consistency in tournaments which includes playing more rounds over 900 rated. I am also wanting to improve my upshot game and learn a reliable forehand.
Do you have a proudest disc golf moment?
Running the first ever Throw Pink event in New Zealand, and a Throw Pink event the following year, was a super proud moment of mine. I am very passionate about growing the women’s game and to have almost 80 women competing at my event over 2 years while raising over $9000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation was a massive accomplishment for me. A very proud personal game accomplishment for me was winning my first NZDG tour events with two Tour wins in 2 weeks.
What is the most memorable disc golf battle you’ve experienced/witnessed?
My most memorable disc golf battle was a playoff against a player I’ve admired for a long time. The play off was in the last event of a 4-event series. It was in a howling wind, but I managed to take it out after a 3-hole battle to win the series with a clean sweep. This play off taught me a lot about maintaining focus and handling the pressure.
What is your go to tip for disc golf beginners?
Have fun, be patient (it can be super frustrating sometimes), learn your discs well and you can never go wrong with an RPM Piwakawaka or Tui.
If you could play any course in the world and bring along any 3 disc golf friends, where and who would it be?
I would love to play in Koh Samui, Thailand as it is such a beautiful place. I would play with two of my fellow RPM Teammates. Hayley Flintoft who has been a big inspiration of mine and Sarah Wadsworth (Little Miss Disc Golf) who reminds me to have fun. I’d also love to be joined by Sara Nicholson who has inspired my Throw Pink journey.
