When/how did you discover disc golf and knew you absolutely loved it?
I was 8 years old when my dad went crazy over disc golf. He was always talking about it and practicing in the yard. Finally after a few months I was slowly introduced to the game. We spent hours playing in the yard and going out to the course. My dad and everyone in our disc golf club trained me and supported everything I did. It was awesome! Ever since then I've been hooked on this great sport.
What’s your favourite RPM Disc in your bag right now and why?
Currently my favorite RPM Disc in my bag is a Atomic Kotuku. It flys as straight as an arrow until the very end where it has a reliable fade. I use it constantly. It is probably my favorite midrange of all time.
Do you have any practice routines? If so, what are they?
I practice putting every day. I have 3 games I alternate throughout the week. They are each made to increase accuracy and fine tune my form while building confidence. Each day I also throw a few shots into a driving net, workout, or practice approach to stay sharp on the remainder of my game.
What are your goals for the current season?
This season I'm focusing on growth! This will be my first full year playing professionally so I intend on expanding my disc golf skills and knowledge. In addition to that I plan to play the game in a way that benefits those around me as well as growing the sport. My more specific goals pertaining to disc golf are to increase my putting accuracy within 30 feet to at least 90%, add 50-100 feet to my drive with accuracy, and play in at least 6 tournaments.
Do you have a proudest disc golf moment?
I remember I was about 14 years and my dad took me to a small local course. We had been playing for a few years, but I hadn't beat him yet. We met up with a group and walked to the first hole. I stepped up to the teepad while everyone was casually talking and not paying much attention. I looked back and said watch me hit this ace as a joke. The next thing we all heard was the splash of chains and a bunch of cheering. That day I got my first ace, and for the first time ever beat my dad. That had to be my proudest disc golf moment.
What is the most memorable disc golf battle you’ve experienced/witnessed?
Every game I play is a memorable disc golf battle, but the most memorable would probably be a more recent doubles match I was in. We finished the round thinking we'd cleanly won, gut we had a tie for first. We played an additional 5 holes to determine the winner. My team lost, but it was an excellent battle.
What is your go to tip for disc golf beginners?
To someone completely new to the sport i would say go have fun! Sure technique is plenty important, and the kind or disc you're using will affect your game, but you don't need to worry about that. It will all come with time. Get out to the course and have fun. To any beginner looking to better themselves in the art of disc golf I would say play with other people! Play with people who are better than you and learn everything you can. Ask questions. Learn from others successes and mistakes. And always keep an open mind about what's possible.
If you could play any course in the world and bring along any 3 disc golf friends, where and who would it be?
I've always wanted to play The Sinks in Chattanooga Tennessee. I've heard great things about it and how challenging it is. My three friends would be an easy choice. My dad Mr. Benny would be at the top of the list. Rounds are just more fun when he's playing. I know my younger brother Jesse would be upset if he weren't invited so he'd have the number 2 spot, and Ben Brawn would be the third on the card.
