How did you discover Disc Golf?
A local ski resort (Angelfire, in New Mexico) had a course in the summer that we'd take visitors to for a fun afternoon. A few years later we saw an ad in the paper about an amateur tournament at Two Grey Hares (Vadito, NM): pay $20, get two discs, and play two rounds of disc golf. Before that, we didn't even own any discs. Fast forward 20 years and the discs have taken over our home!
What is your proudest Disc Golf moment?
Flagstaff 2023, Masters Worlds: somehow I managed to hold myself together and finish even in the FA50 semi-finals , which all but secured my win later that afternoon.
What are your practice routines?
Warmup... every time!
I start with a hybrid routine of stretches taken from yoga and Disc Strong. Then I throw mids/putters, continuing to warmup: 6 RHBH, 6LHBH, repeat 2-3 times. Then I'm ready for longer distances and touch shots.
For putting, I putt for about an hour a day: about 30 minutes of practice from different distances followed by 30 minutes of a putting game with my son and/or husband.
What is your go-to tip for beginners?
Don't get lured into "drivers." The best disc is the one you can throw where you want it to go.
Favourite Disc
Plastic Type: Magma
Comment: "This is such a hard choice, but a soft magma Kea was my first RPM-love and it is still the disc I throw more than any other. Currently I have this super soft grey Kea that looks like a rock (so my son and I call it Dwayne), and as beaten in as it is, it's still stable, and shows no signs of giving up. It's my go-to hyzer up-shot disc."
